PONTROBERT Healthy Living Centre enjoyed a full day of activities on Friday, May 16, as part of Gwanwyn Festival.

Users and guests were given the opportunity to try their hand at jewellery making, computers and constructing bird houses.

Amanda Munday, who is a harpist, held a workshop giving part of the group the chance to play a harp, which they found both fun and interesting.

Margaret Davison, the project co-ordinator, said: "The Healthy Living Project is here in Pontrobert every Friday, and we normally offer a range of different activities to the over 60s who live in rural isolation, but this day was special and gave everyone the chance to be involved in an activity they would not normally do and create something."

Gwanwyn is in its second year and is run by Age Concern Cymru with support from a variety of other organisations, including the Welsh Assembly Government and the Arts Council for Wales, which provided the funding.

Margaret added: "Age Concern Montgomeryshire and the Healthy Living centres are members of Ageing Well in Wales, which is about keeping the over 60s both mentally alert and physically fit, by offering a varied programme of activities.

"It is so good to see people out enjoying themselves when otherwise they would be stuck at home on their own; we welcome anyone in this age group who thinks they would like a day out."

The day costs £6 and includes lunch, while transport may be available.
The project is now in its sixth year and the group has five centres based all around Montgomeryshire.

Margaret said: "We are proud to say that it is like a family atmosphere, you get to meet old friends and make new ones.

"We have a great bunch of volunteers who help at the centres and as bus escorts, but we always need more volunteers to help."

Anyone who would like to join as either a user or occasional volunteer can contact Margaret on 01686 610265.
