"A WEEKEND to remember" – past and present members of Four Crosses YFC converged on the town to celebrate 75 years of the club's existence.

A full programme of events took place over the weekend of July 12/13, including a charity ball, Sunday lunch and promise auction raising money for Hope House, Wales Air Ambulance and MacMillan Cancer Nurses.

A marquee was raised thanks to funding help from the National Lottery, which was offered to local churches to use on the Friday. Around 200 people attended to see the cream of local talent perform.

On Saturday, the charity ball was held in the marquee, with around 270 people present, all partying until the early hours of the morning.
The promise auction was held on Sunday, organisers estimate around £1,500 was raised for the chosen charities.

Mark Foulkes, chairman of the Anniversary Committee, said: "It was a wonderful weekend.

"We had fantastic weather throughout, and it was so good to see so many faces from the club's past and present."

Four Crosses Young Farmers Club was the first of its kind in Montgomeryshire, started by Edith Sockett in 1933, when young farmers from Llansanffraid and the surrounding areas looked to establish a club they could run themselves.

The anniversary celebrations took place in a fantastic marquee in Llandrinio by kind permission of George Daulby, who has been associated with the club for over 40 years.

"We would like to thank everyone who sponsored us or helped us get this marvellous weekend off the ground, everyone who attended had a great time and it's down to the hard work of everyone who played a part behind the scenes," said Mark. "Here's to another 75 years!"

Denise Williams said: "It was a truly wonderful weekend and will be remembered by many for a long, long time.

"Congratulations Four Crosses Young Farmers Club long may you continue to go from strength to strength.

"The heritage of the past is the seed that brings forth the harvest of the future – Four Crosses are most certainly leaders in their field!"
