CELF O Gwmpas promotes and provides high quality arts experiences primarily for adults with learning disabilities, creating new artwork in the communities of Powys.

It runs projects across the county, using arts venues such as theatres or art galleries wherever possible.

The team is working toward more integrated projects, involving other groups of people, because it thinks this will give participants with learning difficulties a better experience.

It designs projects that are suitable for everyone, no matter what the level of disability, and also work to support and promote talented artists who have learning disabilities.

Projects often develop in response to the decisions of the participants.

One recent initiative has been the Celf O Gwmpas Carnival Project, which involves creating and making costumes, decorations, percussion instruments and a giant dragon sculpture using recycled materials and household rubbish, like beer cans and plastic bags.

Jane Cooke, from Celf O Gwmpas, said it is a great opportunity: "It highlights the public profile of the adults involved, and hopefully lets people see them in a positive light.

"It can also help to give them confidence to go on and do other things."

Celf O Gwmpas has played a part in four carnival processions in Powys this summer, in Newtown, Llandrindod Wells, Llanidloes and Rhayader.
Participants from Newtown/Welshpool and Llandrindod Wells areas have been involved over the last three months.

The workshops have been exciting and fun for all involved and everyone looks forward to parading in the carnivals.

The project was funded by the Arts Council Lottery Fund and Powys County Council.

Celf O Gwmpas recently had its funding cut by the Arts Council for Wales, and has been applying for new funding to keep the project alive.
