History

The original house was built circa 1814 for Thomas Johnes as a lodge for the romantic and picturesque Hafod Estate (see Peacocks in Paradise by Elisabeth Inglis Jones). In Circa 1837 the 4th Duke of Newcastle-Under_Lyne rebuilt the lodge as a school. Recently, the lodge together with the entrance gates and pier columns were Grade II listed.
