That was one referee I honestly didn't want to know... by Carl Robinson

AFTER our difficult loss that we suffered against Real Salt Lake in the searing heat we got right back to basics in training working on
defending, and crossing and shooting.
What we have at the club is a great bunch of lads who are really giving it everything but what we do need is a little help up front as our strikers are out injured and we are relying on a 16-year-old kid.
Not a good scenario if your trying to push to make the play-offs – but we know help will be on its way soon.
One piece of transfer news that involved us was that we got Chad Barrett in exchange for the rights to Brian McBride. Situations like this are difficult as we were entitled to have him join our team, but he wanted to join Chicago, a team who he played for before going to Fulham for the last few years.
He would have been an excellent addition for us but the league had to get involved when the player said no to joining us.
This then became a difficult situation as what we wanted they were not offering, and this dragged on for a couple of weeks. We eventually signed Chad, who is a very good young player but the whole situation was strange to say the least.
In the build up to the game against Dallas on the weekend I had lots of phone calls from the Welsh press regarding Kenny Cooper, a centre forward for Dallas who had been linked to the Bluebirds, asking my opinion on whether he would be a good signing and his strengths and
weaknesses. I said that he would be excellent for Cardifff as he is a
very good player and he would go on to be as big as hero as Robbie Earnshaw was when he was there. I'm not really sure what happened but when I asked him if he'd be joining Cardiff City.....well....I won't
tell you his answer.
And so to the game, we have been on a difficult run at the moment as had Dallas, so we knew it would be a tense match, but we were unbeaten at home and had our amazing fans behind us which is as good as another man sometimes.
We started like a house on fire, and pinned them in there own half with our crowd getting right behind us but were unable to take any of our chances, especially from our set pieces which we had been working on very hard through the week.
As the saying goes, half time came at a bad time for us as we wanted the game to keep going on. The first 10 minutes of the second half Dallas got into their groove and had a few chances, but then we kicked on again and pushed them back.
Wave after wave of pressure was being put on them with blocked shots and clearances but still unable to get that killer goal.
We only had four substitutes as well as our squad is right down to the bare bones, so were limited on options, especially attacking ones.
Then suddenly they were on a break away, from their own half down the sideline, but their player was ushered towards the corner flag and played the ball out.
I was thinking it was a goal kick but suddenly the referee pointed to the penalty spot.... I couldn't believe my eyes... he then produced a red card to our player Amado Guevara.
Apparently he was chasing their mid field player from inside their half when he had caught a elbow from him, then a forearm before finally lashing out, but their player went down clutching his nose.....
I thought it was a poor decision as Amado was behind their player when he went down but suddenly he had a bloody nose.... try and work that one out....
Anyway the ref had incensed the crowd, and Kenny Cooper scored from the spot in the 81st minute to go ahead against the run of play.
Was our unbeaten record coming to an end? Everyone was heated and our centre half Marko Velez closed down a ball and swung his arms towards the referee who then gave him a second yellow card and he was sent off.
We were down to nine men and the ref had totally lost control of the game.
And all he kept saying to me was that I don't know him....I don't know
him.... I found this very strange to which I replied 'if you referee like this then I don't want to know you'. Kenny Cooper then scored a second with a long range effort that bounced over our keeper.
Our record was over, we'd been beaten at home for the first time in the league and it was ironic that it was Kenny Cooper who had scored the goals, as I had been talking about him all week.
I talked with him afterwards about Cardiff and we laughed about Dave Jones' comments saying that he had moved on from Cooper and could not wait any longer..... this was clearly not true as it had been Cooper's call.
The boos which greeted the final whistle were unbelievable....we felt we had been robbed, but you've just got to get on with it and work even harder next time.
What was quite funny was that the referee stayed in the stadium for two hours after the match as the home fans were waiting for him outside.
For this match too I was able to have my kids as mascots, and they both came out with me on to the pitch, Lowri walking and Milo held.
This was fantastic for me and I've never seen my little girl smile so much. A truly great occasion and a proud moment for me and Laura.
Outside of the football we've been able to go and watch Coldplay play live at the Air Canada Centre, and they were fantastic.
It really is a great venue, and I've managed to see some top artists this year. On my days off I've been taking the kids swimming in outdoor pools, and roller skating down by the lake...You get to do all sorts of things when the weather reaches 30 degrees.
Finally I got asked the other day about playing for Wales and if I was
going to continue. I've worked so hard to get where I have in life and have been fortunate to play for my country a number of times, so why then would I give this up?... Clearly the answer is there. I love playing for them and will until told otherwise.
