I WOULD never, and I mean never, be brave enough to say that a WI meeting could send you to sleep!

But I noticed this line from the WI report of Pontrobert:
"A highlight of the evening was the presence of Sid Banks from America despite the fact that Sid slept through most of the evening!"

Before I'm linched by the good ladies of that WI I must quickly point out that Sid is the 10-month-old grandson of the secretary, Val Proudlove, and was here on a visit with his mother, Karen Banks, Val's daughter.

Well done to the WI's press officer, it made me sit up and notice the report and then chuckle.

The Wibbly-Wobbly-Woo, I mean World Wide Web, is an amazing thing that has shrunk the world and allows you to keep in touch with friends and relatives the whole world over.

But sometimes it can be a bit too convenient.

Anyone logging on to our website early on Sunday evening would have thought we'd gone mad – well madder than usual!

Clear for anyone to read was a story about a crash in Horsham, Sussex. There was no local connection whatsoever.

Apparently there was a mix-up with the IT boys who set up our website and that of the Sussex County Times. The dimwits set up the duty reporter there with log-on details to OUR website instead of his paper in Sussex.

The eagle eyes of Steve Payne, the Sussex paper's head of digital content, realised the mistake after a few hours and, writing from home on a Sunday night, said: "Many apologies for this and we will make sure this mistake doesn't happen again."

What a sound fellow, but it just shows how having everything so easily accessible can cause problems.

Since there are many different versions of newspapers with the same name as our humble publication (there's one in Ireland plus the Beaver County Times in the US), perhaps we should pool resources and run each others' stories – it would save a lot of chasing about!

CONGRATULATIONS to the Cefn Coch Inn which won our Pub of the Year competition this week. I know they serve a good pint over there, but it's a day or two since I popped in there for one. I'll have to nip in one evening for a jar or two. I take my hat off to landlord and landlady Menna and Evan Watkins who were voted top pub by our readers.

CONGRATULATIONS are also due to Glyn Davies whose blog has been voted one of the top blogs in Wales.

Tory Parliamentary candidate Glyn, whose blog is regularly featured on our letters page, was also voted top for his colourful blog in the Welsh Politicians' Blogs section on the Welshblogindex website.

Not surprisingly he's having a good old dig at the Lib Dems this week as they are in the middle of their conference.

MOVE over Sian Lloyd, the County Times has a new "weather girl" – our Llanfair Caereinion correspondent Eirianwen Jones.

Eirianwen diligently puts together her news for Llanfair town every week and goes out and about taking pictures as well.

Amongst her nuggets of local news this week she writes: "Autumn weather predictions by Eirianwen Jones: A warm day on the 21st September predicts a good wine year for next year."

Lucky Llanfair I say to have such a talented correspondent.

Only this week Eirianwen gets a mention in dispatches for her story appealing for the return of the missing YFC minute books.

With the books safely returned, YFC chairman Amy Williams has thanked Eirianwen and everyone else who helped her to get them back.
Well done Eirianwen, I doff my hat to you.
