THIS week has been a fantastic week as the build up to the first game of the season was approaching, with an away trip to Columbus Crew.
As always happens when the first day of the season gets closer, the cameras come out, the press come out and there's a buzz about the whole football club.
With the new addition of John Carver as head coach(ex Luton Town assistant manager) and fitness coach Paul Winsper, formerly of Newcastle United, joining and manager Mo Johnstone moving upstairs to become genral manager, there has been a different approach and methods to the training schedule.
As in England the out-of-season months come and go with players moving in and out of the team, but it has been a difficult time for us with trying to bring in players before the first game.
Players have been identified and wanted but for one reason or another, the deals just haven't happened – although I expect to see a couple of new faces join soon.
And so to the first game, Columbus Crew away. We arrived late on Friday, and everyone was talking about the game.
The first thing we saw was the incredible support that we had from our supporters. There was about 2,500 people there, who had travelled seven or more hours by coach to be there to watch.
Words can't describe this.
I've been lucky enough to play in England for 14 years, play in international matches for Wales, and support has always been good, but this.......this is something very special here, something is building, and people can see it, and want to be part of it too. Amazing supporters!!!
So the game started, we were bright and confident, and after 20 minutes the game was pretty even, then after taking a quick free kick they managed to take the lead through a long shot which sneaked into the bottom corner.
Tough to take but we came back again and won a penalty just before half time. Unfortunately we missed the penalty and went in one goal behind.
The second half started and it was like the Alamo, we pinned them in for a good 25 minutes, while peppering their goal, but could not convert our chances.
Then as always happens in football, they broke and score the second goal of the match, the old sucker punch!
We re-grouped and carried on till the end but could not get the goal and the game finished 2-0.
From first to last minute the fans sang their hearts out, and as disappointed as we were we know that if we continue to play like that there will be plenty of good days for them.
We now build for the next match away at DC United next week.In all the games in the MLS this week, only two goals were scored by away teams, no away team won, last year's champions Houston Dynamo lost 3-0, and David Beckham's team La Galaxy lost 4-0 to Colorado Rapids.
Champions League resumes and some cracking games lie ahead, but the winners......now that's anyones guess.
It will be a big test for the English clubs, but I predict an all English final. Man Utd put in a polished performance with another Ronaldo goal taking his tally to over 35 goals – an incredible feat!.
Liverpool versus Arsenal game could go either way over two legs, so I'll sit on the fence with that one.
Quick word to wish Cardiff good luck for the FA Cup semi-final against Barnsley and great too, to see the Swans keep winning.
