WHILE most football fans have been glued to the action at the European Championships in Austria and Switzerland there was only one contest that mattered to the staff of the County Times last week – a penalty shoot out between sports editor Gavin Grosvenor and chief photographer Phil Blagg.
After losing a string of bets with his colleague, young Gavin was given the chance to redeem himself and wipe out his gambling debts through a sporting contest.

The normally lethargic sports writer, whose diet consists mostly of bacon butties, put plenty of energy into the contest, but was no match for the former Bristol City youth goalkeeper, losing 4-1.

The majority of his shots were both high and wide of the target ensuring reporter turned ball boy Dominic Robertson had plenty of running to do.

Gav's only success was a scuffed shot that trickled past the keeper as he dived the wrong way.

I'm pleased to say his journalistic skills are better than his sporting ability, but he must stop backing Liverpool to win important football matches in the future if he is to hang onto his money.

All that remains for him to do now is to pay up the £20 he owes to Mr Blagg. Blaggie is pictured on the right consoling Gavin on his penalty failings.
