SINCE the arrival of my special boy I've spent four days with him before having to jet off to San Antonio in Texas to play in the last game of the mini four team tournament.

The match was played in very difficult conditions, the wind was really strong and the pitch was not too great either. We played LA Chivas, a team who consist primarily of South American players, and a team who won the eastern conference last season quite comfortably.

The game started very quickly and after going one goal ahead we quickly gave away two goals, but after a strong second half we managed to win the game 3 2. It was good to play 90 minutes with the season less than three weeks away.

We have now moved on to Charleston to play against New York, San Jose and Charleston Battery in another pre-season tournament. It is good to play against other MLS teams in pre-season as you can establish where abouts you are as a team compared to other teams with the season approaching. This is something that you don't do in England, as in your pre-season you never play against teams in your league, its either in the division above or divisions below.

There has been lots of travelling and lots of phone calls back home to Laura to check how the family is getting on without me.

It was great too see the English teams progressing into the quarter finals of the Champions League. I said last week that I believed the four English teams would qualify and I wasn't far wrong. Arsenal put in a fantastic performance against a top quality Milan team, but it just goes to show that maybe football is going into a new era now where the youth are coming through altogether and clubs will build for the future, like Arsenal are doing.

AC Milan have won everything in recent times but has their team now got to a point where they are too old? Only time will tell. It will be a very interesting draw for the next round with the UK clubs wanting to avoid each other.

Who would of predicted the results of the quarter finals for the FA cup, not me anyway. Chelsea and Man Utd out, opening the door for Middlesborough, who then got beat by Cardiff.

Fantastic for them and I really hope that they can now reach the final for people like Joe Ledley and Stevie McPhail who will be able to say they've played in an FA Cup final. Also the fans of City who are very passionate and it will be great for them to go to the semis at Wembley but then to return will be even bigger. However I hope they can concentrate too on the league as that s the bread and butter of trying to reach the Premiership. They certainly have a top coach with them in Terry Burton, who I know is vital to there success.

Finally what can I say about the Welsh rugby team that hasn't been said before. Fantastic from them and delighted to see them win the Triple Crown. Not many would have predicted that at the start.

Warren Gatland has done fantastically there and brought in a regime that the players seem to be buying into while getting excellent results. Great stuff boys.
