AFTER our season had ended with a 2-0 defeat to San Jose we knew that we were going to be in for a few days after this as medicals and tests needed to be done.

Sometimes after a hard and long season this can become a hardship but they are very important for when you return at the start of next season. Firstly the MLS demand you have an exit medical, which is to show you were fit when leaving the club at the end of the season, and if you return with an injury then they will know that you got this from somewhere else and not during the course of the season.

Secondly we needed to do our fitness tests with our fitness coach Paul Winsper.

Our test comprised of the 20 metre yo-yo test, which is run 20 meters, turn run back, then rest for five seconds before going again.

The beeps get quicker and so on. It is quite similar to the bleep test but the intensity is hard straight away which makes it more difficult. It probably lasts about 12 minutes, but it's hard work.

After doing this we then had to do out fat tests, weight tests, and strength tests.

Finally we had to do sprint tests and turning tests. Theses are ok, but just hard on your knees, especially on the turf.

We completed all these and then I was ready to fly home to the family for a couple of weeks.

The evening after the tests we had a team bonding session on the ice - well some did. I did not as last time I was on the ice, with my little girl Lowri, i was walking around holding the sides while she just skated everywhere. Watching Englishmen Danny Dichio, John Carver, Chris Cummings and Paul Winsper on the ice was hilarious though.

From this we went to our end of season party at the ACC Center to watch the Maple Leafs play and have our awards dinner.

The awards went to Todd Dunivant for Humanitarian of the Year, Marvell Wynee for Defender of the Year, Chad Barrett for Top Goal Scorer of the Year and I managed to win the Most Valuable Player of the Year.

This was a great achievement for me, especially after winning it last year as well, but special mention must go too our keeper Greg Sutton, who I thought was superb this year. A good end to the season, but I would have swapped the award for a place in the play-offs.

I then returned to my family in Hereford and that was an unbelievable feeling. Seeing the kids smile as I walked in was special, and this proves to me that your family is the most important thing in your life.

Since arriving back I've done some radio work with BBC Wales on the Cardiff and Wolves match and bits of TV work here and there.

It's totally different from playing but something which might interest me later on in life.
