WELL, another eventful week this week saw us leading up to the big away game at LA Galaxy on Sunday at the Home Depot Centre.

The build up was all about David Beckham as you might expect, but being nearly 6,000 miles away from home and the UK you might of thought it would be different.

Don't ever be fooled by that, he is on nearly every sports programme everyday and that is American sports shows that only usually show NBA and NHL games and reports.

He is a worldwide superstar and is making football over here becoming bigger and growing all the time. That's also not mentioning his wife who is also a very popular person on television here.

We flew to LA on the Friday evening as the game was not until Sunday lunchtime, and trained at the Home Depot Centre on Saturday before the game. On arriving at the stadium there were pictures galore of Beckham all over the place as well as Kobe Bryant, but the facilities were absolutely fantastic.

Just before the game kicked off we were told that the temperature at pitchside was 102 degrees...wow, preparing for 90 minutes in that heat, that was a tough thought.

The game started at a frantic pace and Landon Donavon had two excellent chances to open the scoring, and as usually happens we went down the other end and Danny Dichio put us ahead.

Within 60 seconds we were level after conceding a sloppy goal. Half time came and ice towels were all given and a chance to get some water into us....We started very brightly in the second half and after some good football went 2-1 up after a Laurent Robert freekick was parried and headed in by young Jared Smith.

We were in Mr Beckham's back yard and were winning.....confidence was growing and we had another two chances to extend the lead. The referee then gave a penalty to LA with 15 mins remaining from which Landon Donavon scored his second goal of the game. The stadium was rocking with nearly 18,000 fans happy LA had just scored.

Then a big talking point, our striker Jeff Cunnigham went clean through and was pulled back by David Beckham, who was the last man, the ref put his whistle in his mouth to blow, then waved play on... an unbelievable decision, even Beckham ran back with his head down.....one of the most blatant sending offs I have ever seen....but for some reason it went unnoticed. I wonder why?

Things evened out eventually, and Jeff Cunningham scored the winner for us with two minutes to go to secure our first away win of the season. A cracking game and great result.

On flying back we also hit a hitch as in mid air the pilot informed us there was a hydrolic problem and we had to divert to Nebraska, which was the closest airport. Upon landing I saw that the highway had been shut both ways and fire engines surrounded the runway.

We landed safely but then had to sit on the plane for an hour while it was fixed, and then flew onto Toronto.

I desperately wanted to get off the plane there but had no choice. Thankfully we arrived safe, albeit 10 hours after we had left.

We play our first home game next week against Real Salt Lake at BMO Field with a 20,000 sell out expected.

A great weekend was confirmed when Swansea City won promotion to the Championship. It looks all over in the Premiership too as Man Utd are sailing away but the relegation issues still have to be resolved.

Good luck too, to Joe Calzaghe who fights Bernard Hopkins this weekend.

Sounds like a great adventure out there in the USA, I was pleased to see that the Toronto FC official web site described their team captain's home town as:
Llandrudod Wells, Wales :D
