Committed fans and individual introductions in Chicago... by Carl Robinson

WELL it's been a pretty tough week for us on the football front or shall I say soccer front.
Now after taking a rest in midweek against Pachuca we had a massive league match against Chicago away from home on saturday evening.
We knew this was going to be a tough match but we also knew it was a crucial match for us as we were both on the same points going into this match. A total of 21 points each had us in joint fourth place.
Chicago is always a great place to go and play and they blow the game up with intros for each player, in fact when you leave the tunnel until the game starts is probably about 10 to 12 minutes, which is a little too long especially after you have warmed up earlier, but this is the way over here.
What made it even more exciting was the fact that we had over 1,500 fans there who were so loud it made me think it was a home game, they really were unbelievable throughout.
In fact after the game in TGI Fridays, we got to meet a couple who travelled down and it took about 10 hours to get down, so that truly is what true fans are about.
In the game we changed our formation to play a 3-5-2 system, which had served us well in the last couple of games and went there with the intention to win the game.
Unfortunately that did not happen and we were under the cosh for the first 20 minutes and they took the lead during that time.
In fact if I'm being honest they maybe should have been two or even three goals up approaching half time.
We then changed formation and nearly got back into the game, when we hit the post and had a blatant penalty turned down. Now I know we were away from home but this was as obvious penalty as your ever going to see but no in fact our player Mo Edu got booked for an apparent dive.
Half time arrived and a double substitution kicked us into life. We then dominated the match and deservedly equalised when our youngest player Abbi Ibriham scored on his debut.
We then created more chances but could not take them and then disaster struck. Deep into injury time, a failed clearance cost us as they scored the winning goal and pinched the three points.
This left us heartbroken and it was tough in the changing room after the game as so much hard work counted for nothing.
Winning and losing really is a fine line, and this showed that you must concentrate until the 95th minute, if you have too. Having said that I enjoyed my battle against Caustimo Blanco, the Mexican international, who has just been called up to the MLS All Star team.
The MLS All Star team is the best 18 players in the league picked by media, players, and fans. The big names such as Beckham, Angel, Blanco are in it as are some young Americans who are starting out in their footballing careers.
Players who I believed should have got in it are not, such as Emilio, Jaime Moreno of DC United, Ricardo Clark of Houston and Amado Guevara of my team Toronto, but football is just about opinions, no one is right and no one is wrong. Everyone has a different one, but big congratulations to my pal Jimmy Brennan who will be Toronto's only representative in the All Stars game against West Ham United.
This will be a great honour for him as he's a local lad and a real proud moment for his family.
I also know a lot of the West Ham boys such as Green, Ashton, Collins, Gabbidon and McCartney, so it'll be good to catch up.
I got asked the other day what I thought about the refereeing over here, well this is a very argumentative topic. What I do know is that as the standard of football improves here almost weekly with new arrivals, all other aspects have to improve.
Off the field it's been a busy time as I've just purchased a property in Hereford that I can call my family base, and have been spending lots of time with the kids.
My little man Milo really is growing up quickly and changing everyday. I have to say it's a pleasure getting up at 4am in the morning when he just looks and smiles at you, although tough at times.
Its been pretty strange speaking to my pals back home, who are just starting their pre-season schedule. Most are starting friendly games in preparation for the new season, but all of them always ask when am I coming home to play against them?
