AFTER our excellent away victory in Los Angeles we had a tricky game against Real Salt Lake in our home opener, a team which had beaten DC United 4-0 the week earlier.

As expected we were to play in front of a packed BMO Field, of nearly 21,000 crazy fans........ And throughout the game I can assure you that they were as loud as I've heard them, and even louder than last year which I thought was never going to happen.

All week we had worked on tactical stuff involving lots of switches of play to try and change point of attack, and within 10 minutes it nearly paid off as we went very close to going a goal up but for a poor referee decision.

A goal was likely and we went 1-0 up when Lauren Robert thumped in a free kick and the place erupted with fireworks and balloons going everywhere.

We continued to press for that second goal as we had dominated the first half but ended up going in just one goal ahead.

The second half was a totally different affair and they pinned us back in our half but we defended very well and saw the game out 1-0.

Football really is a game of two halves and this was so evident in our match on Saturday. After two consecutive victories we are now set to face the Kansas City Wizards who lead the division at this early stage.

As I said, everyone beats everyone in this league and you could name four teams that maybe might win it, with places in the end-of-season play offs totally up for grabs.

I was watching the Swans celebrating their promotion this week, and that is great for Welsh football and Wales in general.

However, on the other side of the coin is Wrexham who this week lost their league status and will drop into the Blue Square Premier.

This is truly a sad day for football and Wales and I have lots of people who I know are playing there and involved there and no doubt changes will have to happen.

With relegation comes the inevitable player exodus, some go onto better things but others don't.

Jobs within the football club get lost as finances become totally stretched, so this day becomes a costly one to lots of people involved within the club football club as a whole, not just players.

Champions League dominates this week as Liverpool and Chelsea renew rivalries and Man Utd face Barcelona in a game which most neutrals want too see. Everyone predicts a high scoring match so don't be surprised if you saw a 0-0 first leg. I predict a Chelsea-Barcelona final (so if you want to put a bet on, you're probably better off sticking it on Liverpool and Man utd...what do footballers know about predictions?).

Squeaky bum time comes into the equation now within football as promotion and relegation nears.

These are really tense times as a player as you can see the end but know you still have to get there. I will guarantee you that there will be more twists and turns in all divisions before and during the last two games. Exciting times for the fans......but nervous times too.

What can I finish on but saying congratulations to JoeCalzaghe...... what a performance...what a victory....what makes it even more so unbelievable is after being put down in the first round by a Hopkins right hand he not only showed guts and determination, but will, inner strength and a desire that a true Welshman has inside him...

He really is a true Welsh hero and I can't wait to see if the Calzaghe versus Roy Jones fight develops now. Pound for pound he is the best boxer in the world.......And he is a Welshman!!!!
