Basic errors cost us dear in the sweltering heat... by Carl Robinson

AFTER the tough loss against Chicago in the last minute we went back to the drawing board with regards to a few things on the training field.
This has been the first week that we've had a little break in between
the games and it gave the manager some time to do some specific training work on the training field.
We worked on defending certain situations and also on getting crosses into the box to up our scoring chances ratio, even though we had been stuggling for goals in recent weeks.
Again the transfer names were thrown about on who was joining us, from
Paul Dickov to Hakan Suker.... but still no new arrivals had come in
prior to the match.
We faced a difficult match away at Real Salt Lake in Utah, at the Rice Eccels Stadium. What made it even worse was that we knew we were going to play at high altitude on a pretty difficult surface but we did not count on the temperature being 104 degrees going into the match.
Salt Lake were current leaders of the West Conference and knew they could put some space between them and us, who were only 2points behind them with a game in hand.
The game started at a slow pace, as the heat was a factor, but chances
came and went for both teams, with them probably edging the first half
hour and hitting the post from close range. But as the half came to a
close, we hit the crossbar through Laurent Robert from a close range
header, then missed an excellent chance before half time with a unmarked header that went in to the side netting.
Half time was 0-0 and we were quite positive, although we knew we had to sort a few things out regarding some defensive problems we were encountering, but that was spoken about at half time.
The second half started at a frantic pace and after 60 minutes they opened the scoring with a far post header after some pressure on us.
We knew we had to roll up our sleeves now if we were to get anything from the game, and with five minutes remaining we equalised with a top class free kick. Amado Guevara scored with a right footer from 30 yards which was bent into the top corner. A pure cracker!!!!
We were right back in the game now..... until we switched off again a minute after scoring and they scored again.
Teams are at the most vunerable when scoring and we showed this by conceding a sloppy goal with two minutes left. Basic defending had cost us again....We had put all this hard work in and thrown it away.
Well what do we know and learn from this? We have to play until the
final minute...we can't switch off at anytime...we must not sit back in
the last few minutes, but most of all we must learn from our mistakes, something that I don't think we are doing at the moment.
Another hard week's work awaits as we face Dallas at home, a game now
that becomes our biggest of the season.
We need to start picking up results soon to try and maintain our push for the play offs at the end of the season.
This can be achieved but we need to get out of our bad run soon and start pickin up points on the road. We're still unbeaten at home but have lost seven on the road. Conceded two goals at home but 22 away from home.... these issues need to be addressed by us, and oh.... we are still waiting for a striker or two to arrive...
The new season in the UK is fast approaching and transfers are
happening now all the time.
It was great to see my best pal Robbie Keane join his boyhood idols of Liverpool. What a move for him, but I do know Liverpool are the only club he would have left Spurs for as he loved it there and especially the fans....
